The Precess

Uncovering the Problems
by Interviewing to Users
& Debt Experts

Before jumping into solutions, I needed to gain a deep understanding of the issue from both stakeholder and user perspectives. I conducted interviews with government officials, municipal representatives, and debt collection agencies to better understand the systemic challenges.

The most eye-opening insights came directly from young people who shared their experiences with the overwhelming stress of unpaid bills and growing debt. Their personal stories helped bring the problem to life beyond the data.

Building the Design Principles

With a solid understanding of the problem, I established clear design principles to guide the development of Fynny. These principles ensured that every feature directly addressed user needs and aligned with the project’s goals.

Designing the Information Architecture (IA)

Once the core features were defined, I focused on designing an intuitive user experience. To achieve this, I conducted a card sorting exercise with eight target users. Participants were asked to categorize 20 key features into logical sections such as Home, Profile, and Navigation Bar. This process helped ensure that the app’s structure felt natural and easy to navigate.

Designing and A/B Testing Wireframes

With the information architecture in place, I developed wireframes to test usability. The process started with low-fidelity sketches, which were later refined into mid-fidelity prototypes for user testing. To explore different design possibilities, I created two layout variations and compared their effectiveness.

Users Preferred Version B for Better Navigation

The results revealed that users generally preferred Version B because it allowed them to easily locate desired features. The comprehensive layout provided clear access to key elements, which users found highly functional.

Users Liked Version A for Its Clean Design

Despite the overall preference for Version B, some users expressed a liking for Version A due to its cleaner and more minimalistic UI design. This highlighted the trade-off between simplicity and feature accessibility.

Streamlined Homepage with Clear Actions

After the A/B Testing, I went back to ideate the design. For the homepage design, I focused on creating a clean and simple layout. This approach prioritized financial data tracking and prominently placed call-to-action buttons, enabling users to quickly understand their options and take immediate steps.

Streamlined Homepage with Clear Actions

To address user feedback about the complexity of financial data, I redesigned the dashboard to make information more visually clear and easy to understand. The updated design ensures users can interpret their financial progress without confusion

Easy-to-Understand Finance Reports

Fynny breaks down finances into simple, visual progress trackers. Users can easily see where they stand and how far they’ve come—no calculator required.

Guided Financial Tips with Smart Tools

From payment calculators to tailored advice, Fynny acts like a personal finance coach. For instance, the app suggests payment strategies based on spending behavior.

Making Finance Less Intimidating

Designing a financial app for the first time made me realize how overwhelming finance jargon can be. As a young adult, I could relate to the struggle, which pushed me to create a more intuitive and accessible experience for users like me.

Strengthening Mobile UX Skills

This project allowed me to refine my mobile design skills, from structuring intuitive navigation to simplifying data visualization. I learned how to present financial information in a way that’s digestible and easy to act on, even on a small screen.

Growing My Passion for Financial Wellness

Working on this app deepened my interest in financial wellness. Seeing how thoughtful design can help people feel more in control of their money made me excited about designing products that truly empower users.
