Hello 👋, I'm Chieh (pronounced like "Jay"), or you can call me Harper.

Over the past four years, I’ve worked across diverse industries in tech, from mobile to cross-platform apps, spanning K-12 education and financial wellness. I was born and raised in Taiwan and now live in Brooklyn, New York.

From Farmland to Design

Before stepping into the world of design, I earned a bachelor's degree in Agribusiness—a field that blends agriculture and business. During my studies, I spent a lot of time in the fields, growing crops, conducting soil tests, and talking with farmers to understand their challenges.

The images on the right show the corn I carefully nurtured throughout an entire semester, while the ones on the left feature Acmella oleracea—definitely not your typical park grass! Also known as the toothache plant, it has been traditionally used to help relieve pain.
One of the biggest lessons I learned from working in the field was the importance of stepping outside and seeing things firsthand. The most surprising discoveries often happen when you’re out in the real world, observing, questioning, and uncovering insights. Whether in agriculture or design, truly understanding a problem at its source leads to the best solutions.

Pursuing a Deeper Understanding of UX

While I loved working with plants, I found myself drawn to the fast-paced world of technology—where change happens quickly, and impact is immediate. Still, my passion for understanding people and their needs remained constant.

Wanting a more structured approach to user research and product design, I moved to New York to pursue my graduate studies at Pratt Institute. This journey has allowed me to refine my skills and deepen my understanding of how design can create meaningful user experiences.

On a More Personal Side

When I’m not at work or school, I enjoy photography and spending time with friends at museums, getting lost in art and history. There's something inspiring about seeing how creativity takes shape in different forms.

I’m also drawn to all things colorful. I love doodling—sometimes it’s animals, sometimes it’s just whatever comes to mind. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with Procreate, and here are some of my recent artworks!
